OpenAI Expands Free ChatGPT Access With Unlimited Text Conversations

OpenAI is significantly expanding what users can do with the free version of ChatGPT. Starting next week, Free and Go users will be able to have unlimited text conversations, while also gaining access to a new Think button designed for questions that require deeper reasoning.

The changes are part of a broader ChatGPT update announced by OpenAI, which also introduces improvements to its latest AI models for paid subscribers.

Free ChatGPT Users Get More Access

Under the new update, GPT-5.6 Luna will become the default model for Free and Go users. OpenAI says users will be able to use the model for unlimited everyday text conversations, subject to safeguards designed to prevent abuse.

However, "unlimited" does not mean every ChatGPT feature will become unrestricted. OpenAI says limits will continue to apply to file uploads, image generation and other tools.
